Scented products can be harmful to the health of employees and patients who have allergies, environmental sensitivity or chronic lung or heart disease. In sufficient concentrations, scented products may result in mild irritation for some individuals and complete incapacitation for others.

Due to health concerns arising from exposure to scented products, the Algonquin Family Health Team has instituted a policy to provide a healthy, comfortable and productive work environment for employees as well as patients and others at its Howland Building, Wellness Hub, and Dorset Health Hub sites.

Effective September 1, 2010, scented products will not be allowed within AFHT’s Howland Building, Wellness Hub, and Dorset Health Hub facilities at any time. This includes colognes/perfumes, scented deodorants, hairsprays, lotions, air fresheners, cleaning materials, and other products which could be considered an irritant for those with scent sensitivities.
