Healthy Heart Program

healthy heart imageWe offer a comprehensive education and exercise program at our Wellness Hub on Wednesday evenings from 6-8:30pm for people recovering from a cardiac event or wishing to improve their current fitness level.

The program is divided into two parts. Phase 1 is an 8-week core education presentation facilitated by several Health Care professionals, followed by a 1 to 1 & ½ hour exercise session of cardio & resistance training including use of the indoor walking track, and Motivations gym.  Each participant receives an individualized exercise prescription; therefore we need a recent medical assessment and / or stress test before the start of Phase I. Education topics include:

  • How the heart works
  • Risk factors
  • Medical treatment
  • Exercise and fitness
  • Nutrition
  • Stress management
  • Maintaining motivation
  • Medications

Phase 2 is an 8-week home based program including weekly contact with the program Nurse.

Our program follows guidelines developed by:

  • Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation
