The program is divided into two parts. Phase 1 is an 8-week core education presentation facilitated by several Health Care professionals, followed by a 1 to 1 & ½ hour exercise session of cardio & resistance training including use of the indoor walking track, and Motivations gym. Each participant receives an individualized exercise prescription; therefore we need a recent medical assessment and / or stress test before the start of Phase I. Education topics include:
- How the heart works
- Risk factors
- Medical treatment
- Exercise and fitness
- Stress management
- Maintaining motivation
Phase 2 is an 8-week home based program including weekly contact with the program Nurse.
Our program follows guidelines developed by:
- Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation
- American Association of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
- American College of Sports Medicine.
Healthy Heart Registration Information
Participants can now self refer, or have their physician / Internist send referral to enroll. A participation fee of $90.40 (HST included) includes print material, education and exercise sessions.
